Ballavpurer Rupkotha

It was 14th. November 2021 around 03 PM . I happened to receive a phone call from our local, talented and versatile theatre actor and director, Supriya, asking me about acting in a Bengali drama “ Ballavpur-er Rupkotha”. Although it a bolt from the blue, I thought I’d give it a go without ever contemplating the consequences mostly as I sincerely never imagined that I’d be selected. The requirements were for an advanced level which I knew I wasn’t but I threw caution to the wind!

After a brief discussion with my better half, Rakhi , I was convinced by her that I can do it without any hassles and after a long hard inner consultation with myself, I decided to take the plunge. There was no backing out now and I couldn’t let the group down.

I went to the rehearsal and after going through some intricate advice from the Director and encouragement from the fellow casts, I found myself part of a thriving community.

We rehearsed ( or read are rehearsing ) regularly which was extremely tough owing to family commitments and work . The stress levels were high initially for me as a debutant!

I believe I can keep up with the standards and will give my best on the 29th. January stage show – “Ballavpur er Rupkotha”, written by Badal Sarkar , an influential Indian dramatist and theatre director, well known for his anti-establishment plays during the Naxllite movemnts in the 70’s .

Hope to see you all at the sold out event on 29th. !
