“Travel only with thy equals or thy betters; if there are none, travel alone.”
Travelling alone is the first step in conquering the fear. And once you’ve placed yourself in a situation where you have absolutely no choice but to be alone, you will realize that being alone doesn’t mean being lonely—and you will inevitably learn to enjoy your own company.
This is how it all started and finally executed: Planned to go for a trek around the last quarter of 2022 , but I wasn’t very sure of how my body will react to altitude. From January 01st. 2023, I started a strict disciplined lifestyle, not that I lead an undisciplined life , but this is more about diet and exercise. Reduced all carbohydrates intake and joined the gym . Finally , with the help of one of my childhood friend’s suggestions and tips , I decided to go to Sandakphu and Chandu , the highest altitude in the state of West Bengal in India.
Booked my flight tickets in around January 2023 for the April trip.
From Perth I flew by Singapore Airlines to Delhi with a 04 hours transit at Singapore. From New Delhi the transit was for three hours for my next flight to Bagdogra. Stayed overnight at Siliguri after a long flight journey.
Travelled to Manebhajan, Tonglu, Tumling , Sandakphu and Chandu from Siliguri and spent four days watching the splendid Kanchenjunga Ranges, known as the ” Sleeping Buddha ” ranges and the view of Mt. Everest from Chandu.
I spent hours by myself in silence. No computer or phone , no internet connection, no music, no podcasts. Walking along the lakes and the steep trails … Just me and my thoughts.
It was an excellent trip and I am now more inclined to do the Annapurna Base Camp or the Everest Base Camp trek once in my lifetime.
