চোখ কই

চোখ কই? ( translated in English it means – where are the eyes ? )
After acting in a thriller drama ” Satyanweshi Byomkesh Bakshi ” on stage at Nexus Theatre on 13th. Sept 2025 , organised by Rangmanch Production and under the direction of the most versatile actor and Director,  Supriyo Guha , I have had the chance of play the role of Bikash in the Bengali drama .
This reminds me a story from my childhood days and I always remembered those lines – চোখ কই? Or where are the eyes ? It goes like this ….
My father was a great flute player himself and two of his many friends were the famous actors – Tapen Chatterjee ( well known for Gupi Gayen Bagha Bain movie fame ) and the present famous Bengali actor , Saswata Chatterjee’s dad , Subhendhu Chatterjee ( Chattopadhay ).
I had an opportunity to appear for a Bengali TV serial audition , where there were 200+ candidates and I was amongst the top 20. But the amount of money the company demanded was out of our reach , so that didn’t happen.
One day , when my father met Tapen Chatterjee in his house , somewhere close to Lake Gardens in Kolkata,  India ( although I vaguely remember the exact place in Kolkata, to be honest ) he was keen to listen a few lines from me . Tapen Kaku ( as I called him ) asked me to act a few lines . I did it.
After listening to my dialogues,  he mentioned that I acted well but চোখ কই? Meaning  where are my eyes? Kaku advised me that with dialogues the eyes should move or react in a way that applicable for the scene . So true!
Since I started the rehearsal of Byomkesh Bakshi almost four months back , I always tried to improvise myself , always used to add more creativity to the dialogues and always remembered those two words চোখ কই and express my emotions and feelings with words and with eyes .

Dear Supriyo,  I think I have just justice to my role and I fevernently believe that you are happy with the way it went on stage on the D day. Thanks for all your tips and advises time to time.
I would also like to thank Rakhi for been patient with me and spending time each single evening to watch and listen to my script and provide inputs about how it can be more and more better !
Dialogues may be small but it has to be impactful to the audiences,  that’s what I learned from these stalwarts.
Delighted to be a part of RangManch Production and looking forward for more ..

  1. Enjoyed the story and the learning. In the meanwhile, every morning I wake up, I find myself asking “চশমা কই” 🙂
