A couple of photos suddenly popped up in my OneDrive memories, taking me straight back to an unforgettable incident involving our beloved fur baby, Indy.
Two years ago, on this very day, Rakhi had lovingly prepared some delicious homemade ladoos ( traditional Indian sweet balls made with coconut ) for a sacred religious purpose.
Little did we know that someone in the house had a VERY different plan for them!
It was around lunchtime, and I was at work, when my phone rang. It was Rakhi. But this wasn’t an ordinary phone call. It sounded more like an emergency broadcast!
In a state of complete panic, she practically screamed into the phone:
“INDY ATE 12 LADOOS! TWELVE! IN JUST A FEW SECONDS! SHE ATE THE WHOLE LOT DIRECTLY FROM THE PLATE!”
For a moment, I couldn’t even process what I was hearing.
TWELVE LADOOS?!
I immediately went into full emergency-investigation mode. Forget my work, forget everything else — Google was now my emergency veterinarian!
My first search was:
“Is coconut harmful to dogs?”
And Google, in its usual calm and reassuring manner, essentially said, “Coconut is generally not toxic to dogs in moderate amounts.”
Nobody had told Indy about moderation. Apparently, her personal interpretation of moderation was: If there are 12 ladoos on the plate, then 12 must be the correct serving size!
And then came the photographic evidence.
Rakhi sent me a picture of Indy’s face.
Oh, that face!
She looked as though absolutely nothing had happened. No guilt. No remorse. No explanation. Just a perfectly innocent expression that seemed to say:
“What ladoos? I have absolutely no idea what you’re talking about ?
The funniest part? This was a once-in-a-lifetime performance. In 11.5 years, Indy had never done anything like this. But when she finally decided to break the rules, she didn’t just steal a snack — she carried out a full-scale ladoo operation!
Twelve ladoos. A few seconds. One innocent-looking suspect. Two very shocked humans. And one sacred plate left completely empty!
Looking back now, these little memories are priceless. We would give anything to have Indy around to create another bit of mischief, leave us speechless, and then look at us with that impossibly innocent face.
We still miss you, our sweet girl.
